Look at the two videos to see how we may use a number line and 'adding on' to work out a subtraction problem, and how we would use the more traditional compact column subtraction, remembering to 'borrow' when needed...
Please refer to the images below for instruction on how to complete the homework task. The slideshow below give the starting point, remember which one you had!
Click on the video below to see how the children can add 3 digit numbers with carrying using 'Compact addition' - Note, with our policy we carry underneath.
Year 4 have been creating pictures with the iPad and a few quick collages, using the app, PicCollage http://pic-collage.com/ which were inspired by the work of Harris Burdick. (You can find out a little about the story behind the pictures here... http://harrisburdickproject.weebly.com/ ) We're hoping to get some fabulous written work from them based on the pictures they've created mirroring the emotions and feeling they portrayed during their drama sessions!
Use the spelling strategy sheet to revise your -ness and -ment suffix words.
The images of the work are attached. You can even look at the video link to remind you of the letter formation of ness in your handwriting with the video link below. ness video from Peter Jones on Vimeo. Watch the video attached to see how to 'carry' with compact addition. This will help support you homework. It's been a busy few weeks and things are coming together in terms of the new Computing Curriculum. We're beginning to develop links with the new Lego WeDo software we've bought to enable children to get a more practical feel to 'Programming'. This is something I have felt strongly since the impact just a few lessons had on students when working with RoboLab in 2007 at Tithe Barn School... I'm still searching through the Vimeo archives for the footage of the boys jumping with glee after they solved the problem and got the 'car' to drive perfectly along the bench and back again! The excitement it brought to them, in what was quite an unreliable set up, was tangeable and I'm hoping that with more training and hard work from the staff and myself, we'll be able to replicate that from KS1 through to KS2 and challenging the older children with aspects of Mindstorms programming come the end of the year. |
