Dear Mums and Dads, We would like to thank all of you for your support for our Egyptian Day. The costumes were amazing and the children were so well prepared for this day; it was simply a pleasure to engage in all the wonderful learning on offer today. We would also like to thank you for coming in to see us this morning as we like to share our teaching and learning with you, in situ. The carousel of activities included an IT based lesson, using Pic Collage; it was so engaging and aptly summarised by Ileri who said 'it made me feel that I was going back it in time, to the days of the Ancient Egyptians.' Decorating the masks was very creative indeed and as Mohammed said 'it was the end of the process and .... I had to ask the teacher to allow me to do my own mask! She wanted to paint it herself...... it was such fun.' Designing a royal cartouche challenged the children to engage in using hieroglyphic symbols to write their names. Charlie loved it because 'it made me use another language with it.' Lauren particularly liked to follow the steps of mummification via a treasure hunt and as she said 'it made me think how hard it was for the Egyptians to do this job. I think I would have liked to do it, back then.' Any call for an embalmer and Lauren knows how to advise on the process! Using collage to depict a scene from the Nile Valley, Harry G, maintained that 'this was great because the teachers made it nice and easy but I felt part of the scene. It brought it all to life for me.'
After the holidays, we shall be using the coding program Scratch.
Watch the two videos here to get a little more of an idea of how to use Scratch2. You can download the program at home via this link, or simply work online. https://scratch.mit.edu/ |
